C Ayyannapatrudu, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA from Narsipatnam, was chosen as the Speaker of the 16th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Saturday without any opposition.
PPK Ramacharyulu, Secretary General of the Legislative Assembly, said only three nominations were made for the Speaker’s post, all supporting Ayyannapatrudu.
On Saturday morning, the Assembly's second day started at 10:30 am. Three MLAs who missed taking their oath on Friday completed the process.
All 175 MLAs have now taken their oath, and the session went smoothly. YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy did not attend the Assembly because he had plans to visit Kadapa district later in the day.
According to a statement from the opposition party, Reddy will spend the next three days in Pulivendula.
Ayyannapatrudu’s election as Speaker was expected since no one else was nominated for the position.
